Some recent highlights at Westmead PS!
Met South Public Speaking Regional Finals
Four of our students proudly represented Westmead Public School at the Met South Public Speaking Regional Finals. Each competitor presented a prepared speech on a chosen topic and an impromptu speech on a surprise topic given to them on the day.
Govin (ES1) and Dheerav (Stage 1) both gave outstanding speeches on topics they were passionate and excited about. Both students spoke with confidence, clarity and used eye contact.
Kiyan (Stage 2)'s speech, Life Begins in the Ocean was shared with incredible passion and conviction and earned him a Highly Commended Award and Runner-Up in the Stage 2 competition.
Adhvaith impressed the adjudicators and the audience with his emotional and moving prepared speech, The Web of Automation and his impromptu on the topic Be Careful, earning him First Place in the Stage 3 Regional Finals. Adhvaith will now represent our school and region at the State Finals in Term 4.
Year 6 Camp
Recently our enthusiastic Year 6 students attended the Great Aussie Bush Camp for three unforgettable days of adventure, teamwork, and fun. Despite the wet weather, spirits remained high as students took on a range of exciting activities, including high ropes, rock climbing, bushcraft, the giant swing, and various initiative challenges.
Evenings were just as action-packed, with team-based challenges keeping everyone engaged and entertained. The highlight was the final night’s County Fair, featuring milkshakes, ring toss, sumo wrestling, and plenty of laughter.
It was a fantastic week that built resilience, friendships, and memories to last a lifetime.
Regional Premier’s Debating Challenge Finals
On Friday the 29th of August, Westmead Public School hosted the first round of the Regional Premier's Debating Challenge Finals against Llandilo Public School. The topic for this debate was ' That all homework and assignments should be group work.' Llandilo was affirmative and Westmead was negative. Both teams had strong arguments and solid rebuttal. However, in the end Westmead Public School proved that the practicality of this change would be too difficult for all stakeholders and walked away with the WIN! Our debating team continue to progress through the Regional finals!
