Strong Minds

PBL

Strong Minds

Strong Minds is a whole school approach to support improvements in student wellbeing.

It supports our whole school community in developing a culture of inclusiveness and resilience.

English

Students will participate in learning activities to develop the following skills:

- Oral language and communication

- Vocabulary

- Phonological Awareness

- Phonic Knowledge

- Reading Fluency

- Reading Comprehension

- Creating Written texts

- Spelling

- Handwriting

- Understanding and responding to literature

Mathematics

In Kindergarten, maths is all about exploring numbers, patterns, shapes, and measurement through hands-on activities.

Students will learn to:

- Count, recognise, and represent numbers.

- Explore how to combine and separate quantities through practical activities.

- Copy and continue repeating patterns.

- Sort and describe 2D shapes and 3D objects.

- Connect events to days of the week.

- Tell time to the hour.

- Create and interpret simple data displays, like picture graphs.

- Solve problems through thinking and reasoning.

Science

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY

Students will develop skills in conducting investigations and designing solutions. They will explore changes in weather, day and night, and how living things respond to their environment. In the Living World, students will learn about the basic needs of plants and animals and how living things are used to meet our needs.

HISTORY

History focuses on understanding personal and family heritage. Students explore their own family stories, traditions, and special events, helping them develop a sense of identity and connection to the past.

GEOGRAPHY

Students begin to build an enduring understanding of the world and their place in it through the exploration of familiar places and the establishment of connections with previously unfamiliar places.

PDHPE

In PDHPE, students will explore what makes them unique and how to stay healthy, active, and safe. They will develop fundamental movement skills like balance, sprinting, jumping, and catching. During grade sport, students will strengthen their gross motor and coordination skills through fun and active games.

Creative Arts

Students will develop skills in Drama, Visual Arts, Music, and Dance, with many activities connecting to concepts from other learning areas.

Home Activities

In general, students are not expected to complete formal homework in Kindergarten. Students may be given books to read at home, as appropriate.

To further support reading enjoyment and concepts explored in the classroom:

Home readers: please read with your child every night

Literacy and Numeracy activities: a range of activities are provided at the beginning of every term, for families to work through at their own pace.

 

Library

Kindergarten students will have weekly library lessons exploring quality literature, authors, and book selection strategies. They will also borrow and return books, so please provide a clearly labelled waterproof bag.

Scripture: Thursday

Sports Day: Wednesday

Library Day: Each class is on different day. Class teacher will inform their own class.
